Here's a few of the eggs you will see from our chickens. We have several varieties of hens laying. We have Ameraucanas -- which are commonly referred to as "Easter Egger" hens as they lay different colors of eggs, mostly green tinted. Some of their eggs will be olive green, some turquoise, light green and even peach. Young children are especially delighted at the "Easter Eggs" from our hens and also they are so curious because "Wow, there really are "green eggs"! (From Dr. Suess' Green Eggs and Ham).

Then we have some hens that lay brown eggs: Barred Rocks, Black Sex Links, Delawares, and Buff Orpingtons. Finally we have a few hens that lay white/cream colored eggs.

We think our hens are quite happy. Due to predatory critters like coyotes, hawks and owls, our hens do not run the property, but have a nice big area that is fenced in top and sides with chicken wire. We have two roosters in with the hens, one is an Ameraucana and the other is a Barred Rock, so our eggs are fertile. Several of our hens go "broody" a few times a year, and sit on a nest of eggs and hatch out a bunch of baby chicks. I've included some pictures of our flock below. Enjoy! ~Starlene
